I hope you have read my first story in this series An Autobiography of a Bit. Like most people, I also live in a home, go to work and commute to various places.

You can think like your computer hard disk is my home and computer’s CPU is my office where I go for work. This is also called computation.

Data buses and Networks are my highways where I commute. My destination’s memory is my new home.

Do you know I have a superpower? I can be replicated any number of times. When I travel, one copy of me remains in my source and another gets created on the receiver side.

When I travel on my network highways, I do lots of adventures.

I will tell you my story “Adventure in the highway” later.

Here I will tell you the story of my work.

I don’t live alone in my home. Our team of 8 or a Byte lives in a home.

Each one of us has a room to live in our home.

We have a colony of ours inside the hard disk. Every home of ours has a unique address like you have for your homes.

Whenever a request with our home address comes from CPU, we all 8 stays at home only but our 1 replica gets ready to travel towards CPU by data buses inside the computer.

When our replica reaches the CPU, the CPU does some magic. Sometimes that magic changes the faces of the replica. This magic is called computation.

I will tell you the story of this magic “Byte and the secrets of CPU” some other time.

After magic CPU sends the redressed team of 8 or a Byte with a home address to our colony. This address can be the same as an old home or for a new home.

This team starts living in their new home.

You must be thinking about what happens to old members of the home.

Do they get any compensation?

No, they just get vanish. So sad.

No one misses them this is the sad reality.

Sometimes after magic, the CPU decides not to send them to the colony instead they are sent for bigger adventures in network highways.
